Meet Jon O’Toole – Collin County Criminal Defense Attorney

Jon O’Toole spent the first six years of his career prosecuting cases, not defending them. He began as an assistant county attorney in Hunt County in 2007. After, he served as an assistant criminal district attorney in Tarrant County until 2013. While in Tarrant County he handled everything from misdemeanor DWIs and assault charges to complex financial crime cases.

Moving to criminal defense was a natural progression from that work. Having seen firsthand how the state builds a case against someone, Jon wanted to help people on the other side of that process navigate the system. That desire led him to open his own practice in 2013. After representing numerous clients who needed guidance with Texas licensing boards, Jon adds protecting professional licenses to his practice at O’Toole Law, PLLC.

He holds a law degree from Texas Wesleyan University School of Law (2006) and an undergraduate degree from Baylor University (2002). He is licensed by the State Bar of Texas. In addition to state practice, he is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court and the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas. He is a member of the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association and the Collin County Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, where he previously served as president.

Jon and his family have called Collin County home since 2011. After several years practicing as part of a firm, he returned to solo practice to get back to what drew him to this work in the first place. Jon wants direct, personal contact with the people he represents. Jon brings the experience and the discipline it takes to actually prepare a case for trial. This is why O’Toole Law keeps a deliberately limited caseload today. In his words: “Every client deserves the best possible defense, and the best defense has to be built specifically around that person’s situation — not applied like a template.”
